Ioana Boambes MS, L.Ac, is an National Board (NCCAOM) certified acupuncturist and herbologist, with a MS in Acupuncture. She has recently moved to the town of Halcott Center, near Margaretville, in the Catskill Mountains, after having an established acupuncture practice in New York City for 12 years.
Ioana began practicing acupuncture in New York City in 2009, after receiving her Masters degree from Daoist master's Jeffrey Yuen's Classical Acupuncture Program at the Swedish Institute. After receiving the MS in Acupuncture, she completed her graduate Chinese Herbology studies at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in 2011. She began her own acupuncture practice and, during the course of her herbal studies, also joined the practice of Joan Boccino/Acupuncture Associates near Union Square. After two years with Acupuncture Associates in general practice, she joined the practice of master acupuncturist Adele Reising, to deepen her experience in the field of fertility and women’s health. She followed the medical school tradition of medical residency by working in established clinics with senior acupuncturists for four years after finishing her studies, while also maintaining and growing her own practice, with a focus on musculo-skeletal imbalance and pain management.
In her practice, Ioana has an Integrative Medicine approach, having a thorough understanding of western medicine diagnostics and treatment regimens. She brings in the mind-body and energetic concepts of Chinese Medicine to work either as standalone techniques or in tandem with existing western medical diagnostics and protocols. Her acupuncture training included a full year of clinical rotations at Montefiore Hospital, and post-graduate training in the Memorial Sloan Kettering programs for palliative oncological care. She has assisted Max Kalkstein in the Orthopedic Acupuncture Program at Pacific College. She was invited to join the faculty of Pacific College in the Acupuncture Master's program. She continues her studies with Jeffrey Yuen and other senior acupuncturists. She is in the process of completing coursework at the Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM).
In March 2020, Ioana enrolled in the Joy of Living mindfulness meditation training program at Tergar Institute, under the guidance of Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche. Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche has been involved in extensive research on neuroscience, meditation and balance since the 1990’s. The culmination of this research is the two year Joy of Living meditation training program which brings traditional Buddhist meditation and mindfulness techniques to present day life. Ioana has been able to start introducing elements of her mindfulness studies to additionally support her patients’ healing process.
In her practice, Ioana specializes in musculo-skeletal conditions and chronic pain, women’s health and fertility support. In addition, she treats digestive issues, autoimmune conditions, chronic stress insomnia. In the past she has also directly collaborated addiction specialists, bringing the knowledge of chinese medicine and holistic health to support patients with hard to resolve addiction problems.
She enjoys dialogue among all health practitioners and believes the future will show a stronger correlation between eastern and western approaches to health. Some of her most successful cases have included in depth collaboration with a patient's physicians.
In her spare time, Ioana enjoys spending time in nature, by the ocean or hiking, ashtanga yoga, and meditation.
